Leung Ting – Biu Tze: The Thrusting Fingers Set of Wing Tsun

Biu Tze is the third and most advanced set in the Wing Tsun system. In the past, we had a saying: “Biu Tze does not leave the door”. It meant that those Wing Tsun (Wing Chun) practitioners who did not attain a certain level of skill could not even have seen the set, let alone hope to learn it. This is because senior disciples who understood this set would absolutely not practice it in front of their regular younger Kung Fu brothers. Thus, one can appreciate the great regard in which our forebears held this set.

Soft-cover, size “8 x 5”, 168 pages.

Karl Godwin – Modern Training Methods of Wing Chun – Book 1 – The Wooden Dummy

This is one of those books that when you flip through it, you find yourself stopping a lot to read because so many things catch your eye. This also makes it hard to summarize.

If you are interested in the dummy, then pick up this manual. That is all you really need to know. It contains a lot of interesting information and it should improve your dummy form and applications, or at the very least it should give you some things to ponder the next time you practice. We see a lot of books on the dummy, and we feel this one stands out.

Ian Protheroe - Eternal Springtime Boxing

Ian Protheroe – Eternal Springtime Boxing

“Eternal Springtime Boxing” is Sifu Ian Protheroe’s latest book and as usual is presented in quality, hardcover format.

It’s 420 pages cover both internal and external aspects of Wing Chun, a large section is devoted to leg techniques and kicking, while the wooden dummy, rattan ring and weapons defense all receive a great deal of attention. Knife and stick defenses are paramount in this book and offer an informed view in practical self defense against an armed opponent.

The chi sao section includes switches combining pre-determined, standard Wing Chun drills to provide a continuous flow from drill to drill, in both photographic and diagrammatic format.

It also covers history, philosophy, basics and numerous other insights into the Art of Wing Chun. It is non style biased and covers both mainland China and Hong Kong schools of thought towards Wing Chun.

This book is HAND MADE by Sifu Protheroe.

After the the printing is done, each book is separated, hand sewn and the spine glued by hand.

First, Sifu Protheroe buys a bolt of cloth for the covers, then he cuts the cases to size, glues on the cloth to make the basic cover.

Next the wording must be typed, and the base metal template for the imprints made in reverse. They are then set individually in to a press, the covers are then laid down one at a time.

Gold leaf sheet is then laid over the cover and the press comes down to imprint the text and/or picture onto the cover… that’s just for one cover. It all takes about 30 minutes per book once the jig is finalized.

Then the process is started again.

As a collector and a lover of books Sifu Protheroe is happy to continue to hand make every book – it is very time consuming but the quality is there forever. He actually only makes AUS$10 on Eternal Springtime Boxing at present, which is hardly worth the effort.

Prices for raw materials keep going up and so he cannot hold the handmade prices for much longer. Grab these hand-made collector’s items while you can!

Wing Chun Weapons: Butterfly Swords and Dragon Pole by Sifu Ian Protheroe

Wing Chun Weapons is Sifu Protheroe’s third major work and covers in detail the traditional weapons of the Wing Chun system.

It is the most complete book on this topic ever published and covers a host of training methods, forms and technical details of the weapons.

Protheroe outlines his personal development with the pole and swords and how his fencing methods have developed over 2 decades.

The book basically covers a complete syllabus for learning both weapons; it includes training drills with predetermined attacks and defenses, short training sets to familiarize the practitioner with the weapons and much more.

His approach is systematic and leaves no area untouched. Conditioning methods for both weapons are included, as are specific Jongs for both weapons.

The pole section includes drills for Chi Kwun (sticky poles), basics and footwork, power techniques and the Look Dim Book Kwun form.

The presentation of the book is first class, as you would expect, sporting a gold embossed, hard cover and quality paper, and containing 192 pages.

It is a must for all serious students of Wing Chun weaponry.

Randy Williams – Wing Chun Gung Fu – The Explosive Art of Close Range Combat – Volume 6: Combat Theory and Drills: An Instructor’s Manual

If you have been around a while, then you know of these books by Randy Williams. Originally published in 1989, the Wing Chun Gung Fu series was the first attempt to publish the complete Wing Chun system and is still considered by many to be the most in-depth look at the wing chun system in (or out of) print. (The other contender would be Wayne Belonoha’s look at the Moy Yat system in his Wing Chun Compendium series). These books are on the shelves of many modern day Sifus and many of the diagrams, text, and maxims originally printed here have found their way onto posters, manuals, and other media over the years.

Now, after having being out of print for many, many years, we are very happy to offer these books again. Sifu William’s top student, Mario Lopez, has done a limited edition second printing of these books. If you are a serious colector or just want to add to your wing chun knowledge, then this series is highly recommended. Even if you come from a different lineage the books pack a ton of information that will apply to your own Wing Chun.
